Gavin Newsom Discovers Fraud at Last, and Only the Kind That Fits His Agenda

In the sprawling bureaucracy of California, where billions of taxpayer dollars have vanished into the pockets of scammers, Governor Gavin Newsom has finally zeroed in on a fraud worthy of his administration’s full attention. Not the unemployment insurance heist that drained tens of billions during the pandemic. Not the hospice schemes bilking Medi-Cal of hundreds of millions. Not even the broader estimates placing total fraud losses under his watch at $180 billion or more.

No, Newsom’s team has mobilized against those who might falsely claim to be “LGBT-owned” businesses to snag lucrative government contracts.

According to reporting highlighted in recent analysis, California public utilities are being pressured to award $633 million in special contracts to firms certified as LGBT-owned. To ensure compliance and root out impostors, the state demands a “gay-certification program.”

Misrepresent your sexual orientation for financial gain, and you could face up to a year in jail. This is the hill the Golden State chooses to die on while real criminal enterprises loot public coffers with impunity.

The contrast could not be starker. For years, California has earned a reputation as a fraud magnet. Massive schemes in unemployment benefits, student aid, housing funds, and home-care programs like IHSS have siphoned enormous sums.

Federal investigations continue to uncover layers of abuse, yet the state’s response often feels performative—raiding a few high-profile hospice operations while broader systemic failures persist. Newsom’s office touts task forces and license revocations, but critics rightly note that the culture of lax oversight, combined with aggressive expansion of entitlement programs, created the perfect environment for exploitation.

This selective outrage reveals a deeper truth about progressive governance. Identity-based preferences and diversity mandates take precedence over basic fiscal stewardship. When the fraud aligns with dismantling traditional structures or enforcing new orthodoxies around sexuality and gender, enforcement is swift and severe.

When it involves billions funneled away from hardworking families and into criminal networks, the response is muted, defensive, or redirected toward federal blame.

One cannot help but ask the pointed question: Why does the state excel at policing personal identity claims but falter so dramatically at safeguarding public funds? The answer lies in priorities. California’s leadership has long championed expansive government programs and equity initiatives, often at the expense of accountability.

Programs designed with good intentions—or at least marketed that way—become riddled with loopholes when ideology overrides prudence.

Consider the broader pattern. Reports from multiple outlets document how California lost staggering amounts to pandemic-related fraud, with organized crime rings exploiting weak controls. In-home supportive services, costing nearly $30 billion annually, face allegations of rampant abuse. Yet the machinery grinds slowly there, while certification rituals for preferred identity categories receive meticulous attention.

This is not mere incompetence. It is a telling inversion of values. Scripture warns us repeatedly against the perils of unjust weights and measures, of leaders who fail to execute justice. As the prophet Isaiah declared, “Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed; To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people” (Isaiah 10:1-2, KJV).

When government diverts its gaze from protecting the vulnerable—those footing the tax bill—while obsessing over compliance with cultural dogmas, it mocks the very concept of stewardship.

Californians deserve better than a state where faking one’s private life for contracts carries heavier consequences than systematic looting of welfare systems. True reform would begin with dismantling the perverse incentives of race-and-identity quotas that invite fraud in the first place, coupled with relentless pursuit of every dollar stolen from the public purse, regardless of political optics.

Until then, Newsom’s newfound vigilance on “gay for pay” fraud stands as a revealing monument to misplaced priorities. In a state hemorrhaging credibility and cash, the governor has chosen his battles—and the people of California are left paying the price.
