Hunter Biden spent days lecturing the country about Trump’s “crypto grift.” Then he launched a meme coin named after the laptop he left in a Delaware repair shop, watched it spike past $200, and watched it die before lunch.
According to RedState, $LAPTOP hit $222 at 8:05 a.m. Wednesday and sat at $1.79 by 12:20 p.m. That is more than 99 percent gone in under four hours. Breitbart had it crashing about 98 percent in the first hour after an opening burst above $190. Different trackers, same punchline. The coin did not even survive a workday.
Bubblemaps said roughly 80 percent of the people who bought $LAPTOP lost money. More than 15,000 wallets went red. CEO Nicolas Vaiman called the supply “extremely concentrated” before trading even started and said it was built to dump. That is not a market correction. That is a trap with a ticker.
At the time of this article, it is currently under $1.
He Warned Buyers Not to Expect a Payday
Hours before the launch, Biden posted the kind of sermon only a Biden could deliver with a straight face.
You should not expect me or anyone else to make this token more valuable for you. $LAPTOP isn’t just about owning something, it’s about saying something. Everybody gets knocked down. How do we help each other and our country to get back up?
He also admitted the quieter motive. Asked whether he hoped to profit, he said, “I also want to make some money.”
The marketing copy called the token a “symbol of resilience, redemption, and recovery.” The pitch video was a montage of the same laptop coverage he spent years treating as a smear. His line was, “They turned laptop into a weapon. I turned it into a token.” What he turned it into was a four-hour fire sale.
Twenty percent of the one-billion-token supply was carved out for people who lost money on $TRUMP, plus Biden’s Substack list and a mailing list tied to video journalist Andrew Callaghan. Callaghan said he and his company had nothing to do with it. Founders, including Biden, kept 30 percent, locked for six months and vesting over two years. Another slice was tied to token burns on 30 predetermined events, one of them a Democratic win in 2028. Even the “burn” mechanism was a campaign slogan.
And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. (2 Peter 2:3)
The Wallets Moved Before the Public Did
On-chain data did not wait for the speech. A project-linked wallet received 100 million tokens a week before launch, a tenth of the whole supply, then offloaded about 42.5 million. Another 14.5 million went to an unlabeled wallet about two hours before trading opened. Market makers were already sitting on inventory. That is the opposite of a “fair launch,” which is the phrase crypto promoters use when they want you to feel included in the robbery.
RedState called it a classic rug pull. Biden later tried to blame thin liquidity and “predatory traders” and claimed the price had found a “healthy” level. Healthy for whom? Not the 15,000 wallets that followed the first son’s redemption tour into a ditch.
The Machine He Spent Years Denying
The name is the tell. $LAPTOP is the MacBook Hunter abandoned at a Wilmington repair shop in 2019. The New York Post published the contents in October 2020. Emails, messages, and files tied Hunter’s foreign payday to Burisma in Ukraine and to a planned Chinese venture that listed “the big guy” for a cut. There were also the photos and the addiction record he later tried to recast as private tragedy.
Fifty-one former intelligence officials signed a letter saying the story had “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.” Joe Biden used that letter in a debate to call the reporting garbage. Social media locked the story down. Years later the laptop was authenticated in court, used in Hunter’s federal gun case, and treated as settled fact by outlets that once treated it as radioactive. Fox News has documented how the press and the intelligence clique ran cover. Hunter himself has bounced from “I don’t remember dropping it off” to “they hacked my cloud” to a July Substack in which he wrote, “All of that was on it” and “I am not denying any of it.”
Now the same hard drive is a brand. The family that told America the laptop was a plot has turned it into a coin and asked the public to buy the punchline.
The Lecture Came First
Biden did not stumble into this. He spent August attacking the Trump family’s World Liberty Financial project as “corruption at a scale we’ve never seen,” comparing its leverage to FTX and calling $TRUMP a grift that left nearly a million wallets sitting on billions in losses. Fine. Crypto is full of hustlers. That does not make Hunter Biden the sheriff.
He is the man who sold access while his father was vice president, left a trail of foreign cash and personal wreckage on a computer he could not be bothered to pick up, watched a compliant press bury the evidence until after an election, collected a last-minute pardon, and then decided the scandal itself was a product line. Resilience. Redemption. Recovery. The words are cheap when the wallet is already loaded.
Memecoins are jokes that extract real money. Trump’s coin has been a carnival too. Melania’s token cratered. That is the neighborhood. The difference is the sermon. Hunter wanted credit for moral clarity on the way in and silence, or a liquidity excuse, on the way out.
A symbol of resilience, he called it. It lasted until lunch.
