Conservatives have a golden opportunity to make great films that change culture. Currently we are blowing the opportunity to do so. Let me explain – but getting there requires a brief digression.
In 2023, I killed a movie from a major Hollywood director. The movie, Justice, looks into the sexual misconduct allegations against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2018. The director is Doug Liman, who kept its existence a secret for years before premiering it to a sold-out theater surrounded by guards.
So what happened to Justice? Why did the movie never find a distributor? Why has it never been seen?
The brief answer is: I spiked Justice. In November of 2022 I got a text from Doug Liman, the director of Justice. He wanted me to come to New York, right away, like now, to be interviewed for a film he was working on. “I’m an 80s guy like you,” Liman cajoled me.
I knew who Liman was. He is the hugely successful director of the Bourne movies starring Matt Damon. He did a remake of Roadhouse for amazon starring Jake Gyllenhaal. He’s a filmmaker who has worked with Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow and American Made. The latter is the story of Barry Seal, a real-life Louisiana TWA pilot-turned-drug smuggler for the Medellin Cartel who got rich in the 1970s and 1980s before turned DEA informer.
