Sen. Bernie Sanders is on a self-proclaimed “Fighting Oligarchy” tour by which he means that he’s protesting the results of the 2024 election.
But speaking of oligarchy, one could hardly do worse than Bernie’s own Sanders Institute, which is headed by David Driscoll, Bernie’s stepson, who has taken in an estimated $800,000 since Bernie’s failed presidential campaign.
The Sanders Institute is a 501(c)(3) and is not supposed to be run for personal enrichment. Despite that, Bernie’s stepson took in around $150,000, when counting benefits, in 2023. He’s been on the payroll since at least 2018.
(Some calendar years are missing since the Sanders Institute appears to be pretty lousy at filing paperwork and its secretary is Danny Glover. Yes, that Danny Glover. Who is also listed as a ‘fellow’ at the Institute. All of this seems like a non-profit management nightmare, but fortunately, the IRS will never look askance at a left-wing nonprofit.)
Other fellows of this oligarchic mess include Bernie’s wife, Jane O’Meara Sanders, who is also its co-founder, AOC, Rep. Ro Khanna, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, Tucker Carlson fave Jeffrey Sachs, Naomi Klein, James Zogby, Cornel West and Harry Belafonte (who died in 2023). […]
